Recording &
Studio Sessions
With a wide selection of drum kits, snares, cymbals, percussion, microphones and processing options, Hope Cottage Studio can shape a drum sound to suit any track — whether you want something warm and organic, tight and intimate, bright and punchy, vintage, modern, or experimental.
Send us your track, references, tempo, and any ideas you have, and we’ll record drums live from Hope Cottage Studio, delivering high-quality stems ready for your mix.
Find the right sound for your track.
Every song needs a different approach. Some tracks need open, warm, sustained drums. Others need a tight dry sound, punchy modern tones, vintage character, or subtle percussion.
Hope Cottage Studio has a range of kits, snares, cymbals, microphones, and percussion options to help create the right sound for your project.
If you already know the sound you want, send references. If you are not sure yet, I can help guide the process and suggest options that suit the song.
How does it work?
1. Send an enquiry
Get in touch with your track, demo, rough mix, or project idea. We can chat about what you need, the sound you are looking for, and any drum or percussion ideas you already have.
2. Share the track details
Send over your audio, tempo, time signature, references, guide parts, and any notes about the arrangement or feel.
3. Agree the direction
Before recording, we’ll discuss the drum sound, energy, groove, structure, and any specific ideas you want included.
4. I record the drums
I’ll record the drums at Hope Cottage Studio using the equipment and approach that best suits the track.
5. You approve the parts and tone
During the session, I can send .Wav files or rough bounces for approval so you can hear the direction and give feedback.
6. Files are delivered
Once everything is approved and payment is complete, I’ll send the final drum files via WeTransfer or another agreed delivery method.

STUDIO GEAR
-
1976 Premier Elite Mahogany
Warm, sustained and very musical. Think organic tone. This kit works amazingly well in situations that require drums with more sustain, tone, and ring. Great for singer songwriters and acoustic music but, with a change of heads, can emulate those huge 70’s rock sounds we all know and love.Vintage Maxwin Concert Tom Kit
That classical concert tom sound, slap on some plate reverb and you have a very 80’s vibe. Add tea towels for that super tight and close sound. Perfect for more intimate songs.Yamaha Stage Custom Birch
Super punchy and suits Jazz, New School Funk or songs that need that “tighter, brighter open” drum sound. Tune it down and it emulates R&B / D&B tones. -

QUESTIONS
-
The process is really simple. Get in touch, and we can chat about what you need, the sound you want and ideas you have. Then we can get a date sorted out to do the recording.
On the day of the session, have some good headphones near as I will send you over some WAV files throughout the day to get your approval of the parts and tone.
Once you are happy, I will send you an invoice then following full payment, I will send a WeTransfer link to download your files.
If you need any revisions, or are not 100% happy after the recording, please get in touch.
-
24-bit, 44.1K or 48K .WAV files of the individual stems of each track from the session.
I usually deliver stems with minimal processing, such as light EQ, compression, and analogue-style preamp emulation. If you would prefer raw files, fully processed stems, or a specific delivery format, we can discuss this before the session.
-
Ideally, I need your audio track to play along with. This can be either a stereo mix or individual stems.
It is also helpful to have:
a click track
BPM
time signature
key of the song
guide drums
pre-production notes
reference tracks
sheet music or charts, if available
If the track has been exported from beat one of the project, a BPM may be enough, but a click track is always helpful where possible.
If you do not have all of this ready, don’t worry. Send what you have and I can advise on what is needed before we record.
-
For public and commercial releases, I recommend registering your work with PRS and PPL where appropriate.
If you do this, as part of the content, I must be credited on PPL as a performer.
-
Don’t worry. Get in touch and we can talk through the track together.
It can help to think about the music that inspires you, drum sounds you like, or reference tracks that feel close to what you want. From there, I can help suggest parts, sounds, and approaches that suit the song.
-
Yes. If you do not have a clear drum part yet, I can create a part based on the song, references, and direction we discuss.
This can be as simple or involved as the track needs.
-
Yes. Programmed drums are very useful if you already have a clear idea of the groove, structure, or energy you want.
I can either follow them closely or use them as a starting point for a more natural live drum performance.
-
I can send stems with minimal processing, usually including light EQ, compression, and analogue-style preamp emulation.
I can also send mix and processing suggestions to help the drums sit well in your track, or I can provide more processed stems if that is agreed before the session.
If you want raw files, lightly processed files, or a more finished drum sound, we can discuss what is best for your project.
-
Yes. Percussion options include bongos, congas, shakers, cowbells, wood blocks, roto-toms, and homemade percussion.
Percussion can be added as part of a drum recording project or quoted separately depending on what is needed.
-
Yes. I am available for in-person studio sessions and can travel to other studios depending on the date, location, and project requirements.
